In California, the deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days before Election Day, so register early!

You can register to vote in California if

· You are a United States citizen and a resident of California

· You are an eligible Californian who is 16 or 17 years old, you are able to pre-register to vote, with your voter registration becoming active when you turn 18 years old. For more information, please see, pre-register at 16, vote at 18.

· You are not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony. For more information on the rights of people who have been incarcerated, please see the Secretary of State's Voting Rights: Persons with a Criminal History.

· You are not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Voting Rights: Persons Subject to Conservatorship.


You can complete a conditional voter registration at a vote center on or before Election Day, but avoid the lines and register early so your ballot will be mailed to you.

16-17-Year-Olds Can Preregister to Vote

If you will not be 18 years old before the November 3rd election, but will be at least 16 years old, you can preregister to vote. If you preregister to vote, when you turn 18, you will be automatically registered to vote.

To pre-register to vote in California, you must:

·  Be 16 or 17 years old, and

·  Meet all of the other eligibility requirements to vote.

You will automatically be registered to vote on your 18th birthday.
