SJSU Votes Tables at the Center for Community Learning and Leadership Community Connections Fair September 3, 2025 10am-1:30pm on the 7th St. Paseo. We also talked to Spartans about how to get involved with our initiative. We provided nonpartisan information about voting, voting rights, and how to get civically engaged. This event provides wonderful information about how to get involved in the campus and the community and we were thrilled to be a part of it again this semester!

D-3 Special Election Candidate Forum organized by IPACE and SJSU Votes

IPACE and SJSU Votes organized a San José City Council D-3 Special Election Candidate Meet and Greet and Forum held on 3/12. The event was co-sponsored by CommUniverCity, Friends of Five Wounds Trails, and the D-3 Leadership Council. Six of the seven candidates and multiple neighborhood associations joined the event and about 200 people attended at the Student Union Theater. Dr. Currin-Percival moderated the event. Candidates answered questions about multiple issues including housing and homelessness, electronic billboards, helping downtown businesses, and the importance of engagement in local government and politics.

GIS Day

On Nov. 20, the SJSU Spatial Analytics & Visualization Institute (SAVI) hosted its annual event, GIS Day, at the SJSU Downtown Studio from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event highlighted speakers, new GIS technology demos, and a poster competition among students that related to urban planning, geography, UAV/Drones, wildfire science, and other public policy issues. This contest highlighted students' dedication and hard work on various research topics. SJSU Votes was a proud sponsor of this amazing event and took part in conversations about the importance of data and democracy to students and campus life. 

SJSU Votes Celebrates Veterans Day and Election Day. SJSU Votes promotes the On-Campus Vote Center

SJSU Votes tabled on Seventh Street, near the Provident Credit Union Event Center during the VRC’s Annual Veteran’s Day Celebration on Election Day, November 5th. The university honored U.S. military veterans with a ceremony on the West Patio, featuring activities for attendees. Among these were informational tables hosted by student organizations, including SJSU Votes, and veteran service groups. SJSU Votes worked diligently to ensure students had easy access to voting resources and the opportunity to participate in the democratic process as the event coincided with Election Day.  SJSU Votes engaged the SJSU community in the electoral process by directing where to drop off vote-by-mail ballots and how to do same-day voter registration. SJSU Votes also canvassed on campus and near the on-campus voter center, handing out snacks and pens to students waiting to vote.

 SJSU Votes Celebrates Election Hero Day

SJSU Votes expressed gratitude to the election workers at the on-campus vote center and the Registrar of Voters’ Office by gifting them goodie bags made by students on Nov. 4. Election Hero Day is a national celebration honoring the vital contributions of election officials, staff and poll workers who ensure secure and accessible voting for all Americans. The goodie bags, thoughtfully organized by SJSU Votes, included handwritten notes, snacks and sweet treats as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Thank you Election Heroes! 

SJSU Votes Held a Spooky Voter Outreach on Halloween Encouraging Students to Vote

SJSU Votes held the “Voting is Spooktacular!” event on Seventh Street to encourage student voter participation ahead of the upcoming election on Oct. 31. Near the upcoming on-campus vote center, the event aimed to mobilize voters by offering Halloween candy, swag and nonpartisan information about same-day registration and where to turn in ballots. 

SJSU Votes Participates in Rooted Festival Celebrating Social Justice and Student Activism

SJSU Votes tabled at Rooted, an outdoor social justice, music and arts festival hosted by the Cesar E. Chavez Community Action Center at Tower Lawn on Oct. 24. The event, which took place as part of the center’s Legacy Month, showcased Bay Area artists, performers and vendors, to highlight student activism and community engagement. During the festival, SJSU Votes helped students learn more about same-day voter registration and mobilized students to vote in the presidential election. 

Voter Workshop for SJSU Athletes

SJSU Votes and the SJSU Athletics DEI Office hosted a voter registration, education and mobilization workshop for Spartan athletes on Oct. 15 in the SAC Auditorium. The workshop included information about how to register to vote, what was on the November ballot, and where to vote. Students from SJSU Votes presented nonpartisan information and then registered several athletes to vote. Go Spartans! 

SJSU Votes Held a Nonpartisan Ballot Measure Forum

SJSU Votes hosted a November Ballot Measure Forum, co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science and IPACE, in Washington Square Hall on Thursday, Oct. 10 as part of National Voter Education Week. Dr. Garrick Percival, professor and chair of the Political Science Department led the forum. He provided a nonpartisan breakdown of each ballot proposition, helping students plan to make informed choices. Students had the opportunity to engage in discussions and ask questions about the propositions on the November ballot. Students from SJSU Votes also registered voters at the event. 

SJSU Votes Helped the Campus Community Communicate Directly to Representatives During “Contact Your Elected Representatives” Event

SJSU Votes tabled on Seventh Street on Wednesday, Oct. 9 during National Voter Education Week. SJSU Votes members encouraged the campus community to engage with the democratic process by writing postcards to elected officials. To support this effort, SJSU Votes covered all postage and mailing costs, making it easy for students and staff to voice their opinions and concerns.
