April Tabling on the 7th St. Plaza

SJSU Votes!, Pi Sigma Alpha, Bridge SJSU, A.S., and the SCC Registrar’s Office talked with students, faculty and staff about the upcoming Statewide Direct Primary Election and gave out lots of great voter swag. Members of the SJSU community shared with us why it is important to vote. Check out these photos from our four days of tabling and canvassing on the 7th St. Plaza in April, 2022.

March 24th Tabling on 7th St Plaza was Informative and Fun!

SJSU Votes!, Pi Sigma Alpha, and A.S. had a great time talking with the SJSU community about the June 7th primary. We gave out lots of voter swag from the SCC Registrar’s Office and assisted with online voter registration. We’ll be back in April!

SJSU Votes! Participates in Center for Community Learning & Leadership Annual Event

SJSU Votes! tabled at the SJSU Center for Community Learning & Leadership 17th Annual Community Connections Fair on February 23, 2022. It was a great opportunity to share civic engagement opportunities at SJSU. We also registered voters and talked to students about the June 7th primary election. 

LET US VOTE!

SJSU Votes! and the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE) co-sponsored “Let Us Vote! A Conversation about SJSU Activism and the 26th Amendment”. The event, held via Zoom, on October 19th, featured Dr. Jennifer Frost, University of Auckland Department of History and SJSU alum Mr. Les Francis (B.A. ’65, secondary teaching credential ’66). Mr. Francis was one of the original organizers of the national campaign to lower the voting age to 18. Dr. Frost is the author of Let Us Vote: Youth Voting Rights and the 26th Amendment. Opening remarks were made by Dr. Glen Genzel, Chair of the SJSU Department of History and the event was moderated by Maureen Dela Cueva, SJSU Votes! intern. About 40 people attended this truly excellent event!

SJSU Votes! Participates in National Voter Education Week

For National Voter Education Week 10/4-10/8, SJSU Votes! and IPACE sponsored a panel event on 10/7 held via Zoom. “Youth Civic Engagement in State and Local Government” featured San Jose City Council Member Maya Esparza, SJSU Associated Students President Anoop Kaur, SJSU Political Science Professor Emeritus Dr. Larry Gerston, and SJSU Votes! member Nika Noorishad. It was moderated by SJSU Votes! intern Maureen Dela Cueva and attended by 85 people. Thanks to everyone who participated in this really informative and lively discussion!

 

SJSU Votes! also tabled on the 7th St. Plaza for National Voter Education Week. We teamed up with Associated Students SJSU and Rotaract on October 6th to provide information about voter registration, to give out voter swag, and to provide information about the June primary election.

Meet in front of the Rec Center on the 7th St. Plaza. We’ll walk to the closest vote center together! We’ll also have cool swag and answers to your questions.

Monday, September 13th: 9:30am, 12:30pm, and 3:00pm

Tuesday, September 14th: 9:30am, 12:30pm, and 5:30pm.

SJSU Votes! Registers and Mobilizes Spartans on 7th St. Plaza

On August 25, 26, 27, and 30, SJSU Votes! tabled and canvassed on the 7th St. Plaza to register voters before the registration deadline to receive a vote-by-mail ballot. We also answered voters’ questions and provided great swag from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters! It was wonderful to connect with fellow Spartans!

It's Election Day!

It’s Election Day! The SJSU Votes team is busy and excited. The team was at the on-campus vote centers handing out individual hand sanitizers Oct 31-Election Day. Today the lines got longer and poll workers kept the vote centers safe for voters. Tonight is the SJSU Votes! Election Results Watch Party (co-sponsored with Pi Sigma Alpha) at 5:30pm. We hope to see you there!!

SJSU Votes! Student Forum on the Election Brings Excellent Discussion

The SJSU Votes! Student Forum on the November election and the American political system included a panel discussion with panelists from SJSU Votes! (Elijah Hayek, Isaiah Newman, Maureen Dela Cueva, and Lawrence Deng), and from A.S. Lobby Corps (Kadence Sky Walker). Panelists offered informative responses to questions on multiple political topics. The open forum section of the event brought excellent discussion from the attendees. It was another successful SJSU Votes! event! Thank you to all who attended and to the SJSU Votes! team.
